Richard F. Outcault Buster Brown Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-31-03 (New York Herald, 1903). The oldest Buster Brown strip we have ever offered! Note that this long-running strip only started on 5-4-02... just over a year earlier. "Buster Brown at the Soda Water Fountain" features the fancy looking chap and his mirthful pooch getting into a bit of a kerfuffle with a lady's ruffles. There is a great joke hidden in this gem... the glasses on the counter spell out "Dyspepsia" (indigestion). Also, the talking poodle in the first panel is worth noting. Tige is the first talking dog in comic strips, so this one has to rank pretty early as well. The page is created in ink over graphite and blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 16.75" x 22.75". The board is toned, with pinholes in the margins. Signed in the last panel. It is in Very Good condition. Comes with a tear sheet of the printed comic strip. From the Outcault Family Collection.
