Phil Davis Mandrake the Magician Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 7-10-38 (King Features Syndicate, 1938). The 1930s were the "glory years" for newspaper comic strips, especially the Sunday sections with exquisitely drawn adventure strips filling entire pages, each one filled with beautiful detail. Here's a wonderful example from that bygone era, featuring Lee Falk's Mandrake the Magician, drawn by Phil Davis. In this installment, Mandrake and Lothar are on the Moon, in the hidden ancient city of Lunatopia, where machines built long ago, to serve the lunar people, are now beginning to revolt. The art is in ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an approximate image area of 14" x 21.25", and is matted to an overall 17" x 25". Excellent condition. A stamp on the reverse side reveals this to have once belonged to Alan Light, the original publisher of the Comics Buyer's Guide. Alan certainly had good taste in comic art!
