    Description

Phil Berube Dizzy Dean & Other Baseball Champs Comic Strips Original Art Group of 6 (Bell Syndicate, 1937 et Seq.). The St. Louis Cardinals' roughhousing Gas House Gang and champ pitcher Dizzy Dean are among the dominant figures in Berube's masterful portrayals of major-league baseball whizzes in a mixture of portraiture and rambunctious cartoons. Berube (also known for his humorous contributions to various DC Comics titles of the Golden Age) pulls out all the stops for this batch of sporty toons, which also feature the likes of Frankie Frisch, Bennie McCoy, Wally Moses, Augie Galan, and Bob Feller. Very like old-school baseball cards, but enlivened with drawings instead of photographs. Ink and crayon over graphite on textured Coquille board. Image area, 7" x 8". Moderate toning, scuffing, and smudging. Items range from Good to Very Good condition.

Another major house refused the work stating it was too unique for the artist. Heritage saw that as an advantage!
