Pat Boyette, Jack Patton, J.R. Williams, and Others Comic Strips Original Inscribed Art Group 20 (Jack Kent Collection, 1930s-60s). Two pivotal figures in Texas' cartooning history -- Boyette and Patton -- stand out in this splendid batch, including various inscriptions to fan-turned-professional Kent. Even Texas-bred Kent has a drawing, here -- a unique spinoff from his own celebrated comic strip, King Aroo. Patton, of course, is renowned for his celebrated 1920s feature, Texas History Movies; he is represented here by two episodes of an untitled 1930s humor strip. Boyette's contribution is an episode of a pilot strip called Precious Jones, signed as Patrick Aron and dealing in ancient mythology. Then there are a J.R. Williams Out Our Way panel; a Wally Wallgren Army cartoon; a Frank Fogarty self-caricature; a Crawford Young The Tutts panel; a Tish Tash caricature of comedian Oliver Hardy; a Mal Eaton Peter Piltdown; and two Louis Lane talking-bird 'toons. And, as the saying goes, "others too humorous to mention" -- some signatures/titles are indecipherable. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, approximately 5" x 6" to 18" x 6". Average Very Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
