Description
Otto Messmer Felix the Cat Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 7-2-33 (King Features Syndicate, 1933). Otto Messmer, an employee of Pat Sullivan, spent many years as the uncredited author and artist of the Felix newspaper strip, and even claimed to have created the cat with the magic bag of tricks, but Sullivan wanted the fans to consider himself the artist, denying Messmer any recognition. This early Sunday strip has our helpful hero getting an invite to stay in a cat-free a house. The Sunday episode was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20.5" x 16.5". There is moderate toning and minor spot-staining (lower tier), with darker edge and margin discoloration, edge and corner wear. Color-registration markers in the margins. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
