Norman Pett - Hand Colored Jane Daily Comic Strip Original Art (undated). Jane was an English strip that ran from 1932-59, mainly in England. It was syndicated in the USA for a short period after World War II, circa 1945-46. The feature was often rather risque, but it was toned down for its American audience. Jane debuted in 1932, when Jane's Journal, the Diary of a Bright Young Thing was published in London's Daily Mirror. When the war broke out, Jane (said to be modeled after Pett's wife), was pictured wearing less and less of her clothes, thus boosting the morale of the fighting men abroad. In 1948, Pett devoted himself to a new feature, Susie, which appeared in the Sunday Dispatch. Finally, in 1959, Jane's adventures (now continued by Pett's former assistant) ended after she married her long time boyfriend. The image area of this handsome daily measures 5.5" x 15", and aside from paper "pulls" around the borders, outside the image area, the art is in Excellent condition.
