Description

Milton Caniff and Mell Lazarus MAD #89 Comic Strip Illustration Original Art (EC, 1964). The creator of Miss Peach revisits Milton Caniff's iconic adventurer, Steve Canyon, for the 89th issue of MAD Magazine. Parts of an actual Steve Canyon comic strip was used for this purpose. It was cut up and completed by Mell Lazarus, the characters morphing into a version reminiscent of his Miss Peach series. This incredibly humorous strip, featuring the cut and pasted pieces of Caniff's original art on Bristol board, is enhanced with Lazarus' own ink work. Image area of 22" x 6.5". The strip shows light handling wear and slight tanning, particularly noticeable in the older Caniff art pieces. Additionally, the edges of some of the pasted pieces are slightly lifting where the adhesive no longer sticks. Glue residue. Signed by Mell Lazarus. In Very Good condition.
