Description

Mike Peters 1988 Candidates Editorial Comic Strip Undated Group of 2 (United Feature Syndicate, 1988). Peters, best known for the Mother Goose & Grimm gag strip, also wields a powerful brush as an editorialist. Here, he gives the razz to a new breed of candidates (Dan Quayle, Michael Dukakis, Lloyd Bentsen, George H.W. Bush) by comparing them unfavorably to larger political figures of times past (John F. Kennedy, Harry S Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, Ronald Reagan). The savage punchline lies in the depiction of a bewildered voter. Inscribed to a fan. The drawing is accompanied by an actual-size reproduction. Ink over blue pencil on Bristol board, with white retouching. Two tiny stains at right margin. Image area, 12" x 7". Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
