Description
Mike Arens (as Al McKimson) Roy Rogers, King of the Cowboys Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 9-12-54 (King Features Syndicate, 1954). Republic Pictures had dubbed Roy Rogers as King of the Cowboys in a WWII-era movie by that title. The monicker stuck as Rogers branched into television and comics. This bracing, large-scale episode finds Rogers taking a beating while attending a festive gathering. Arens' art is beautifully composed, with varied angles and a brisk command of suspense. The formal byline is a composite pseudonym for writers Tom McKimson and Al Stoffel; Arens' signature (initials) appears at lower right. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 23" x 16.75", framed to 30.5" x 24". Light toning. Excellent condition.Auction Info
