Merrill Blosser Freckles and His Friends Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-14-23 (NEA Service, 1923). Some eight years into the long run of Freckles, Blosser has perfected the household setting where Freckles McGoosey will attain his teen years -- anticipating the Archie series -- and thrive as a popular favorite into the 1970s. Kid brother Tag is still a toddler (though articulate), and an object of Freckles' smart-aleck teasing. Tag gets in the last word, here, supplying a wise-beyond-his-age punchline. Strong sense of family-home environment, with such details as a tiled backsplash bathroom wall and an old-fashioned claw-footed bathtub. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 25" x 6". Moderate age-toning and occasional spot-staining (Panels 2 and 4). Otherwise in Excellent condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
