Mell Lazarus Momma Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 10-16-73 (Field Enterprises, 1973). Momma, Lazarus' long-running exercise in maternal sarcasm, dispenses universal truths about family life with every episode. This piece gives title character Sonja Hobbs a break from her usual routine of dealing with her annoying offspring -- and confronts her, instead, with an annoying gentleman caller. She was "based partly on Mell's mother, Frances," according to syndicate publicity. However, Lazarus has maintained that Momma reflects "everyone's mother."
