Description
Matt Baker Flamingo #58 Daily Comic Strip Original Art (Phoenix Features, 1952). Baker was in top form for this episode from the serialized adventures of a heroic Romani dancer. Writer / editor Ruth Roche raved about "the magic touch of Matt Baker's brush", and here is a sample of what she was speaking about. Hailed as a pioneering African-American comics artist, Baker's work was definitive of the "Good Girl" style. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 19" x 5". There is overall toning, corner and edge wear, spots of whiteout, and the syndicate credit is a paste-up. Baker has signed in the third panel. In Very Good condition.From the Roger Hill Collection.
