Description

Martin Branner Winnie Winkle Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-28-31 (Chicago Tribune, 1931). Tillie unfortunately learns that her romantic moment with Lord Tuppens was more manufactured than meaningful -- he'd been using the same lines on women for years! Winnie Winkle was created by Martin Branner in response to the rise of feminism in the workplace. Winnie herself was a contemporary of Tillie the Toiler and appears in every panel of this strip. Rendered in ink over graphite with blue shading on Bristol board, with an image area of 19.75" x 5.75". Light toning, with creased corners, smudging, and spots of soiling. In Very Good condition.
