Lute Pease, Art Bimrose, and Others Presidential Cartoons Group of 7 Original Art (1940s-2004). A generous assortment of presidential political cartoons, ranging from pre-World War II to 2004. Lute Pease (Pulitzer, 1949) finds Franklin D. Roosevelt nervously contemplating neutrality (Newark New Jersey News, undated). Art Bimrose notes the 75th birthday of Herbert Hoover (Portland Oregonian, 8-10-49). Bob Taylor (Dallas Times Herald) caricatures Richard Nixon as an encouraging gesture to aspiring cartoonist Gary Tiner, who did in fact become a working artist (inscribed, undated, unpublished, 1970s). Charles Werner (Pulitzer, 1939) looks askance at Jimmy Carter and labor leader George Meany in connection with the Minimum Wage Law of 1977 (Indianapolis Star, 11-6-77). Lou Grant (Oakland Tribune) pictures Ronald Reagan and House Speaker Tip O'Neill in a literal duel (1982). Drew Sheneman (Newark Star-Ledger) dashes off a sketch of Bill Clinton (1990s). And John Deering (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette) catches George W. Bush and John Kerry arguing about the economy (2004). Most are inked over graphite on Bristol board (Sheneman, bond paper; Grant and Werner, Craftint shading board; Taylor, textured coquille board). Light toning on the 1977-2004 pieces. More pronounced toning and some smudging on the older pieces. The Pease drawing has one horizontal crease at about midpoint. Image areas range from 8.5" x 11" to approx. 11" X 14.5". Conditions range from Good to Excellent. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
