Leonard Starr On Stage Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-3-61 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1961). Starr not only raised the bar for excellence in soap-opera comics -- he also infused On Stage (a.k.a. Mary Perkins on Stage) with elements of high adventure, mystery and criminal intrigues, and even horror. This top-drawer episode features a creepy/tragic recurring character named Maximus, who serves the feature as a Phantom of the Opera-style presence. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 22.75" x 15.5". Each panel is affixed to a backing board. With moderate toning and marginal crinkling, the art is in Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
