Description

Leo Egli Happy Landing Original Editorial Panel Comic Art (1938) Ohio-based Egli bemoans the arrival of income-tax season, with a play-on-words gimmick equating tax with tacks. The character labeled as John Q. Taxpayer is a riff on Pulitzer Medalist Vaughn Shoemaker's symbolic John Q. Public, created in 1922. Egli's signature character, Leo the Lion Cub, appears at upper right. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 13" x 18". Moderate toning and marginal push-pin punctures. Very Good condition. From the Allan Holtz Collection.
