John Cullen Murphy Big Ben Bolt Daily and Partial Sunday Comic Strip Original Art (King Features Syndicate, c. 1958). Created by writer Elliot Caplin in 1950, Big Ben Bolt ran for 28 years and John Cullen Murphy was the artist the entire time. He did have assistants, and one of the notable ones was the equally stellar artist Al Williamson. The daily strip dated 2-17-58 is personalized and signed by Murphy in the bottom margin as "For Al Williamson, with friendship and best wishes from John Cullen Murphy". This fantastic strip features a great first panel, but it is over-shadowed by the incredible last panel of The Red Dragon! This strip is missing a section of Zipatone, leaving a glue residue. The first panel has been cut in two places through the artwork and reattached with tape from the backside. With overall tanning and pinholes, this one is in Very Good condition. The second strip is a partial Sunday that is undated. It actually features a great looking boxing match-up. This strip started as a Boxing-related strip, however after an injury took him out of the ring, Ben Bolt became a journalist/adventurer. Both strips are ink over graphite on Bristol board. The partial Sunday measures 13" x 4.5. The daily measures 18" x 5". From the Al Williamson Collection.
