Description

Jim Davis Garfield Unpublished Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-17-80 (United Feature Syndicate, 1980). We at Heritage have had the pleasure of offering thousands of Garfield comic strips over the years, but this is only the second unpublished strip we've encountered! It's rare to see a piece of Garfield history that never made it to print; this strip was apparently denied publication and was replaced with a different strip featuring Garfield sitting in his chair watching TV at the time. However, that's not where the story ends! While this daily strip was never published as it appears here, the gag was recycled and used in the strip from 6-13-84! The same text and joke were reused, but Davis and/or the PAWS production department redrew the strip to match the mid-'80s style, which differed notably from the early style showcased here in this example from Garfield's mere second year of syndication. Perfect for the Garfield collector that has everything: this is something truly unique! Rendered in ink and screentone over blue pencil on Bristol board with a 14" x 4" image area. Toned, with discolored shading film, small spot stains, marginal pinholes, and light handling wear. In Very Good condition.
