Description

Jim Davis Garfield Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 2-28-93 (United Feature Syndicate, Inc., 1993). Leave it to Davis to defy the syndicates' insistence upon a repetitive logotype design. "Trademark consistency," they call it. Davis' Garfield logoes are often self-contained gags, per se -- such as this one, which spoofs Grant Wood's famous painting of 1930, American Gothic. The episode itself is a gem, involving a misdirected telephone call. Ink and blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, measuring approximately 18.75" x 12.5". The artist's diligent habits of preservation assure that this one is in Excellent condition -- as fresh as the day it was drawn. From the Jim Davis Collection.
