Description

Jim Davis Garfield Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-26-79 (United Feature Syndicate, 1979). Like the narrator of some nature documentary, Garfield talks about his feats while he performs them. Or his "feets," in this case. Here, the fattest cat in comics demonstrates the advantages of claws. Also the disadvantages. Classic early-period Garfield, with an unusual use of deep-contrast solid-black spotting (on the tree). Ink and Zipatone shading over blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, 14" x 4". Aside from faint yellowing in the Zip adhesive, the piece is in Excellent condition. From the Jim Davis Collection.
