Jim Branagan Our Boarding House with Major Hoople Sunday Comic Strip Original Art Halloween Gag dated 10-25-70 (Newspaper Enterprise Association, 1970). Branagan modernizes the appearance of Our Boarding House (dating from Gene Ahern's masterful creation of 1921) but retains the attitude. Blustery Amos Hoople chooses a bad night on which to read the story of "The Headless Horseman." Meanwhile, Hoople's obnoxious nephews contemplate ghoulish mischief. Branagan had served as assistant to Bill Freyse, who drew the feature during 1939-69. Ink over graphite on conjoined tiers of Bristol board. Image area, 24" x 16". Conspicuous moisture-wrinkling and staining. Good condition.
