Jim Berry's Berry's World, and Camillus Kessler, Wally Falk, Dorothy Bond, et Al. Single-Panel Comic Strips Original Art Group of 6 (c. 1920s-1970s). From the high-profile career of editorialist Berry to the puzzling obscurity of Camillus Kessler, this generous selection of inscribed panel-gags is a wonder to behold. Here, too, are a "Hildegard & Olivia" gag from Wally Falk's Kickin' Around (1948); a kids-and-dogs "Cozynose" piece from Dorothy Bond's The Ladies (1960); a Denny Neal Country Parson panel from 1973; and an Ed Reed Off the Record entry from 1973. The Berry's World, typically sarcastic, dates from 11-3-64. The Kessler piece appears to come from a 1920s storybook with a 19th-century small-town setting. This one is singularly fascinating for its hidden signature at lower left and an equally well-hidden "The End" at lower right. (Kessler did down-home philosophical cartoons for various syndicated during the 1920s-30s.) Ink and additional media over graphite on varied page-stock. Image areas, 4" x 5" to 11" x 15". Varied age-toning and varied degrees of handling wear. Average Very Good condition. From the Allan Holtz Collection.
