Description

Harry J. Tuthill The Bungle Family and Little Brother Sunday Comic Strips Original Art dated 2-11-34 (McNaught Syndicate, 1934). This Valentine's Day edition Sunday strip features a hilariously ill-advised gallery of comic valentines -- handpicked by none other than George Bungle, the perpetually grumpy, status-obsessed curmudgeon. Intended as "gifts" for his neighbors, the cards are less sweethearts and more zingers, sparking chaos on his block with their pointed insults and passive-aggressive charm. This underappreciated gem of early 20th-century comics was celebrated for its biting satire and sharp social commentary, earning it a place in the Library of American Comics series from Fantagraphics. Love is in the air... just not the kind anyone asked for. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 21.25" x 28.25", including the Little Brother topper strip. Toning, production oil staining, smudging, marginal pinholes, corner creasing, tear on the top left edge, and handling wear. In Very Good condition.
