Description

Harold Knerr The Katzenjammer Kids and Dinglehoofer und His Dog Companion Sunday Comic Strips Original Art Group of 2 dated 9-18-38 (King Features Syndicate, 1938). These fine pieces add up to one Sunday-funnies presentation. They are regarded here as distinct compositions because Knerr had inscribed each section to a fan, schoolboy Jack Kent. Kent would grow up to become the creator of a fine comic strip called King Aroo. Knerr's sense of slapstick absurdity is well represented here -- he kept The Katzenjammer Kids perking right along, even as creator Rudolph Dirks left the feature to develop a rival strip, The Captain and the Kids. The Katzenjammers wind up here on the receiving end of one of their own pranks. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, 17" x 13.5" and 17" x 8". Moderate age-toning and handling wear. Very Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
