Description

Harold Gray Little Orphan Annie Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-15-64 (News Syndicate Co., Inc., 1964). A late-in-life example of Gray's mastery of storytelling. At sea to investigate a sunken treasure, Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks finds his crew under attack. Punjab and the Asp, Warbucks' protectors, propose a lethal response. After Gray's death in 1968, his heirs donated most of the Annie originals to Boston University. The comparatively few that remain in circulation are prized among collectors, especially new discoverers who follow the comprehensive Annie reprint books from the Library of American Comics. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 25" x 16.75". Each panel of this Sunday is affixed, collage-style, to a backing board; otherwise, the art is in Very Good condition.
