Description

Harold Gray Little Orphan Annie Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-9-27 (Chicago Tribune, 1927). Older Little Orphan Annie original art is rare for a reason -- almost every existing original resides permanently at Boston University. Of the few not donated to the University, most were trimmed right up to the panel borders. That makes this early surviving Annie, showcased on the back cover of IDW's The Complete Orphan Annie Vol. 1, a scarce item and a true treasure. Little Orphan Annie has been a favorite newspaper comic strip for 79 years and has been wildly popular in radio, on Broadway, in feature films, and more. Licensed Little Orphan Annie products were prolific. This early example by Harold Gray, who wrote and drew the strip until 1967, has large drawings of Annie and Sandy, Annie's famous dog, in all four panels. The image area of this superb episode measures 20" x 5.75", and aside from overall paper aging and a stain in the lower margin, it's in Excellent condition.
