Description

Hank Ketcham Half Hitch Comic Strip Original Art (Curtis Publishing Co., 1940s). Before his breakout with Dennis the Menace, Hank Ketcham created Half Hitch, a gag panel feature for The Saturday Evening Post. The title character, a rambunctious sailor, was an autobiographical reflection of Ketcham's WWII tour of duty with the Navy. In this undated installment, Half Hitch gives two lumberjacks a wood-chopping demonstration. Ink and grayscale watercolors over graphite on Bristol board, with painted white highlights. Image area, 9.5" x 11.5". Overall pronounced toning. Creasing at right. Marginal smudging. Marginal white-out retouching. Small tear at top edge. Generally Good condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
