Description

Hank Ketcham Dennis the Menace Daily Single Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-7-69 (Publishers-Hall Syndicate, 1969). Grouchy 5-year-old Dennis Mitchell objects to a noisy vacuum cleaner. Master cartoonist Ketcham kept Dennis the Menace edgy in the daily gag-panel feature, even as the character's image was being softened in spinoff comic books and advertising campaigns. Although much of the Dennis franchise was farmed out to assistants who could emulate Ketcham's style, the originator kept a hand in his creation until a well-earned retirement in 1994. Ketcham had designed Dennis the Menace to pop right off the newspaper page -- an ideal fusion of words and pictures. When seen at close range as original art, the feature becomes more a demonstration of how very well Ketcham could draw. This domestic scene is a marvel of environmental atmosphere and meaningful detail. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Dimensions, 6.5" x 8". Excellent condition.
