Description

Hal Foster Prince Valiant #80 Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-21-38 (King Features Syndicate, 1938). As episode #80, this Sunday is obviously an extremely early strip from the long-running series! That makes this one of the earliest Prince Valiant strips Heritage Auctions has ever offered. It is the first full Sunday from 1938 that we have ever offered, and even loose single panels from that year have only come our way a couple of times. Hal Foster worked at a huge scale so he could put an amazing amount of work into the fine details of the artwork. This was created in ink with red ink keylines over graphite on two sections of Bristol board with an image area of 26" x 34". Signed in the last panel, and it is signed and personalized in Panel 3. The logo is a printed paste-up. The boards are very toned, with stains, and two rips on the left side. Both boards have been folded twice vertically. These folds appear to have broken the board; however, they have been repaired with glue from a previous mounting. The boards are stiff and brittle. In Good condition.
