Hal Foster Prince Valiant #524 Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 2-23-47 (King Features Syndicate, 1947). Queen Aleta has been kidnapped! But it is her captor who should be afraid, for he has a tiger following him (in the form of Prince Valiant's ship) and a bobcat as a prisoner. Unknown to her captor, she is also pregnant with Val's first child, the soon to be named Prince Arn. Strips with Aleta are highly-sought by collectors, and with her in almost every panel, this one should be on any fans Want List! Big, bold, beautiful panels adorn this Sunday, created in ink over graphite on two sections of oversized Bristol board with a combined image area of 24.25" x 33.5". The left-hand one-third of the first panel (including the logo) is a modern day re-creation that has been fit into place with some expert restoration techniques. The art was recreated on a separate board, then cut to what was needed. As a result, the recreation of the middle section of the first panel is also included separately. The original logo is also included, affixed to a cardboard backing. The top section is joined to the bottom with tape on the reverse. There once was red ink key lines on the original art board, now faded out completely. In the bottom right of Panel 5, there is a personalized hand-lettered inscription "Greetings to Hal Ashby From Hal Foster". Don't forget that the previous Sunday strip to this one (also heavily featuring Queen Aleta) sold through Heritage Auctions in 2015 for nearly $55,000.00! Overall this is in Very Good condition.
