Description
Hal Foster Prince Valiant #4 Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-6-37 (King Features Syndicate, 1937). Only the fourth episode of this classic and extremely long-running strip! Titled "The Dragon", it features a prehistoric marsh dragon. The series would move away from such fanciful fantasy elements as the years went on. Crafted in Foster's fantastically oversized format, this historic piece was created in ink over graphite on two separate sheets of Bristol board with a combined image area of approximately 26" x 35.25". It is personalized and signed by Foster under the flip-up logo recreation that is hinged with tape. The boards have had restoration work, which includes whitening, missing/rounded corners filled in, and new Bristol board backing. There are also two 2.5" rips in the lower right of the bottom section that have been repaired but still show tape residue.
