Hal Foster Prince Valiant #10 Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-17-37 (King Features Syndicate, 1937). This is only the 10th comic strip in this famed and long-running series! And already by this point, young Prince Val has fought a dinosaur, been attacked by the son of a witch, and has slain a gigantic tortoise the size of a house! The witch herself is on this very page and reads to him his fortune. Such fanciful elements would quickly and quietly disappear from the series as it become more adventure and soap-operatic. This Sunday was created at Foster's routine enormous scale on two oversized sheets of Bristol board that have a combined image area of 26" x 34.25". Signed and personalized to Jack "Texas Jack" Kent in the top margin. Kent was a fellow cartoonist best-known for his comic strip King Aroo, and an author of over 40 children's books. These Prince Valiant boards are toned, with some minor stains, and notable bug chew on the right side and top right surface. Two of the captions are hand-lettered correction paste-ups, with a bit of glue residue near them. The boards are in Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
