Description

Hal Forrest Artie the Ace Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 5 Consecutive Episodes in 1 Sheet (Paramount Newspaper Syndicate, 1927). Here is a long-hidden nugget of comics history -- Artie the Ace, the earliest known aviation-themed strip. Hal Forrest (better known for Tailspin Tommy), was in a humorous mood on Artie, which was little-known in its day despite syndicate connections but helped to land Forrest the more prominent Tailspin assignment. (Forrest's airborne interests also pre-date Smilin' Jack by Zack Mosley, one of the best-known flyboy comics). This single-sheet set chronicles a Mideastern misadventure. Ink with blue pencil shading over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 22" x 5.25". Toned, with marginal scuffing, and in Very Good condition.
