Description

Gladys Parker Mopsy Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 9-24-64 (Bell-McClure Syndicate, 1964) A most revealing glimpse into Parker's unique variations on the Good Girl Art idiom: Surviving (faint) pencil-strokes on this splendid piece show that she had drawn her signature character, Mopsy, in the nude before adding the contoured clothing. As usual, Mopsy is thoroughly in control of the men in her orbit -- but this satirical gag makes it plain that she also is susceptible to Freudian psychoanalytical trends. Beautifully drawn, with an intense contrast between the slender pen-line work and the densely blackened areas. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 5.75" x 7.25". Light toning. Excellent condition.
