Description

George Herriman Krazy Kat Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-2-20 (King Features Syndicate, 1920). There was a running gag in this series that Krazy Kat kept interrupting Joe Stork as Joe attempted to deliver babies to expecting parents. Krazy would eventually drop the babe off with Senora Marihuana Pelona and her ever-expanding brood of chilluns. In addition to including this gag, this Sunday also has a brick-throwing incident in the bottom tier. But be sure to check out the text in that first panel. Herriman's lyrical strip was one of the only comic strips to have a true "voice". The Jazz-afflicted dialects and idioms made for fun reading, but in this case, that first panel is pure hepcat poetry! The Sunday was crafted in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 17" x 19". Toned, with some minor stains in Panel 1 and the top margin. In Very Good condition.
