    Description

Gene Byrnes Reg'lar Fellers Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-23-29 (New York Tribune, 1929). Classic gag cartooning? Byrnes wrote the book on it -- literally. His long-running Reg'lar Fellers is a definitive example of the schoolboy comics that proliferated early in the last century. This smart-alecky episode has a beautifully composed, airy look about it, with a surprising punchline. A generation later, Reg'lar Fellers would make a sturdy foundation for Byrnes' Complete Guide to Cartooning, an essential instructional volume. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 20" x 5". Overall age-toning, extensive staining and small tears at left. Very Good condition.
