Description

Gene Ahern Our Boarding House with Major Hoople Daily Single-Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-12-36 (NEA Service, Inc., 1936). Major Amos Hoople stands his ground when the inmates of Hoople Manor object to his method of picking a horserace winner. Seems the Major's smart-aleck brother, Jake Hoople, has a more reliable system. The Major proposes to soothe his boarders' irritation with a blast on his bugle. Ahern's typically brilliant fusion of words and pictures boasts some of the crispest Runyonesque dialogue this side of Damon Runyon his ownself. The environmental details include a console phonograph (lower left). Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 11". Age-toned with handling wear and a docked corner. Very Good condition.
