Gene Ahern Our Boarding House with Major Hoople Daily Single-Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-23-34 (NEA Service, Inc., 1934). Blustery Major Amos Hoople claims to have timed his racehorse at a spectacular speed -- using a historic pocket-watch. Leave it to Clyde and Mack, the cynical roomers at Hoople Manor, to deflate the Major's grandiose pretensions. Prime-period Ahern, here, with dialogue as colorful and detail-rich as the art itself. Ahern adds a punchline in the strip's caption: "Even his watch exaggerates." Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 11".
