Description

Gene Ahern Our Boarding House with Major Hoople Daily One-Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-25-35 (NEA Service, Inc., 1935). Brotherly affection flies out the window when the Hoople boys get together -- blustery Major Amos Hoople, fretting over the outcome of a horserace, while cynical Jake Hoople could not care less. Jake might exhibit better manners, what with his being a guest in the Major's home, but the tensions are what makes the story work. A classic moment from Ahern's brilliant long-term study of clashing personalities. Ink over blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 11". Moderately age-toned, with scuffing and handling wear. Very Good condition.
