Gene Ahern Our Boarding House with Major Hoople Daily One-Panel Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-7-35 (NEA Service, Inc., 1935). An athletic newcomer to Hoople Manor asks about his chances in the wrestling ring against a tough rival. Resident Buster offers a colorful (if discouraging) reply. Major Amos Hoople fancies himself a championship wrestler, "if ... not for my sciatic nerves..." Vintage Ahern tomfoolery, rich in characterization and Runyonesque dialogue. Ink over blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 11". Moderately toned, with handling wear and a noticeable blue-line circle to demarcate the space of the more prominent characters.
