Description

Gene Ahern, Don Tobin, and Others Octopus and Additional Comics Panels Original Art Group of 5 (1930s-70s). The centerpiece of this generous selection is an Ahern gem outside the realm of his famous Major Hoople cartoons: It is a stand-alone oddity showing a deep-sea diver in the clutches of a gigantic inflated octopus -- an image at once frightening and funny in its combination of menace and absurdity. (No publishing pedigree is documented.) The pieces also include two gags from Tobin's The Little Woman (7-20-73 and 12-10-76); a Bob Schroeter Laugh Time (10-2-71); and a chivalrous image from 1957, signed as "Durling," or "Darling," according to a possibly smudged signature. Ink and varied additional media on Bristol board. Image areas, 8" x 8.5" to 6.75" x 3". Average Very Good condition, with varied degrees of toning and bits of adhesive residue.
