Description
Gaar Williams Static Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 4 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1929-32). Williams called his sarcastic feature Static as a rule, but he reserved the right to give it such varied additional titles as A Strain on the Family Tie and Mort Green and His Wife. The larger consistency lay in his ability to combine bold illustrative techniques with smart-aleck observations. Here is a concentration -- awash in snide humor, with a unique brush-line, confident and relaxed despite the droll tensions at play. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Dates are 5-7-29, 6-20-32, 6-28-32, and , 8-9-32. Toning, smudging, spot-staining, and handling wear commensurate with age. Moisture stain at upper right of the 1929 selection. Average Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.Auction Info
