Description

Gaar Williams Something Ought To Be Done about This and Other Daily Comics Panels Original Art (Chicago Tribute Syndicate, 1929-30). The enduring mystery of Gaar Williams has to do with the varied array of titles he gave his popular feature. One day, it might be billed as Something Ought To Be Done about This -- the next, When Words Fail Yuh (sic) -- and on and on. His millions of fans referred merely to the artist: "Let's see what Gaar Williams is up to, today." What he's up to, here and now, is his reliable pattern of mocking human nature -- exposing the perils and pitfalls of a jolly vacation, thinking up a wacky invention, and exposing the hypocrisies of polite conversation. All this, and a unique style of ink-slinging with a good wet brush on a good toothy slab of Bristol board. Dates are 2-15-29, 9-15-29, 6-21-29, and 2-5-32. Dimensions, 13" square. Very good condition, with toning and handling wear commensurate with age. From the Ray Edw Collection.
