Franklin Collier Cold-Weather Cartoons Original Art Group of 2 (Boston Herald, 1924). Boston-based Collier, a master of ridicule, takes a cynically funny look at winter weather and its aftershocks. The vertical piece, here, contains an unusual use of spatter-painting -- dense speckles of sprayed white watercolor, designed to resemble snow. A recurring character, a little kid in a big hat, is Collier's recurring signature personality, Otto Grow. Brilliant overall, and uniformly well preserved. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Marginal notes in Collier's handwriting. Image areas range from 12" x 12.5" to 16.25" x 12. Moderate age-toning and marginal scuffing/staining. Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
