Description
Frank Godwin - Original Art Comic Strip Art for Rusty Riley Sunday (King Features Syndicate, 1959). Few newspaper strips look quite as nice as Rusty Riley. Artist Frank Godwin was a master with the brush, as seen in this lovely example. Like Raeburn Van Buren, Godwin had a long career as a book and magazine illustrator which preceded his work on Rusty In fact, he even had an earlier strip, "Connie", which ran from 1922 to 1944. "Rusty Riley" began in 1948 (after Godwin had spent a little time drawing comic books, including Wonder Woman) as a male counterpart to "Little Orphan Annie". In time, it developed into an ongoing saga about the world of horse racing. While there are no animals in this example, there is plenty of fine portrait art by one of the last of the "old masters". The art size is 23.75" x 16.5", and is in very nice condition.Auction Info
