    Description

Frank Frazetta Johnny Comet Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-24-52 (McNaught Syndicate, 1952). That distinctive Frazetta signature was established early, as was the artist's mastery of pen-and-ink technique, with minimal brushwork (seen here in the solid backgrounds and shadows). The auto-racing adventure strip Johnny Comet, an early proving ground, packs an energetic charge that would carry over seamlessly into Frazetta's EC Comics work, his painterly approach to the Tarzan and Conan books and the Warren horror-comics magazines, and at length to his formal acceptance as a Great American Artist. In this Comet episode, it is a curious side-note that the villain bears the name of Al Gore. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with Zipatone shading film. The image area is 17" x 4.5", with overall toning, marginal staining, and some peeling in the shading film. Very Good condition.
