    Description

Floyd Gottfredson and Ted Thwaites Mickey Mouse Daily Comic Strip Original Art 12-31-35 (Disney Enterprises & King Features Syndicate, 1935). From the celebrated "Pirate Submarine" story arc, crucial to the development of Mickey Mouse as an action-adventure hero in Funny Animal guise. Here, Mickey proposes a last-ditch lifesaving effort for the crew of a sinking vessel. The Disney signatures (Panel 3 and lower margin) are in fact by one of the actual unbilled artists on this strip (likely, longtime ghost Gottfredson). Disney fancied himself the owner of his hired artists, as well as his trademarks. Inscribed to schoolboy fan Jack Kent, who was destined to become a great cartoonist in his own right, with the strip King Aroo. Ink with blue-pencil shading over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 26.75" x 5.75". Toned, with some corner/edge wear and handling. Very Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
