Ferd Johnson and Tom Johnson Moon Mullins Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-25-79 (Chicago Tribune-N.Y. News Syndicate, 1979). If this large-scale gag looks different from the familiar Frank Willard-Ferd Johnson Mullins, that might be because Ferd's son, Tom, had recently begun drawing the Sunday installments under his father's supervision. Tom brought a streamlined, modernized approach to the lowbrow classic, and his renderings capture the spirit while adding new touches. Ferd had started out in 1923 as an assistant to creator Willard and remained with Moon Mullins for 68 years. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 20.5" x 14". Aside from marginal toning, the condition is Excellent.
