Eugene "Gene" Ahern Room and Board featuring Judge Puffle Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-1-38 (King Features Syndicate, 1938). A Major Hoople by any other name must be Judge Puffle. Ahern, the originator of Our Boarding House and its resident blowhard, Major Amos Hoople, abandoned that classic when he moved to King Features in 1936. But then he developed Room and Board, starring Judge Puffle -- very much in the Hoople tradition. Room and Board is vintage Ahern, and Judge Puffle's self-glorifying tall tales are every bit as entertaining and full of baloney as Major Hoople's. Signed at lower right.
