Description

Elzie Segar Thimble Theater Starring Popeye "Plunder Island" Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-24-33 (King Features, 1933). One of the best-loved comic strip serials ever was the eight-month long Popeye adventure, "Plunder Island," featuring Popeye's most feared adversary, the Sea Hag and her monstrous companion, the Goon. Sea Hag appearances are very rare and sought after by collectors; here she is in the exciting Christmas Eve, 1933 episode from the "Plunder Island" storyline, featuring the capture of Professor Cringly by the Goon, while Popeye and Salty Bill search the docks. "I got respeck for women, but if I ever get me hooks on that ol' witch, it's goner be too bad!" exclaims our seafaring hero, and we believe he means it! Poor Wimpy faints upon sight of the Goon, and can only be revived with -- you guessed it -- a hamburger! Great fun from a very historic and important Segar Sunday, drawn in ink and graphite on stiff Bristol board, with an image area of 20.5" x 16.25". In Very Good condition.
